Artist Statement

Death, ageing, physical pain and the contact with the visceral world are the primary themes of my work. They can raise both aversion and fascination in the way it is experienced, but all these elements inevitably emerge in my creative process articulated in an organic visual language.

The conflict between the aversion and the attraction to these biological processes is manifested in the obsessive repetition of biomorphic figures of mysterious character and dual appearance, as they become both playful and disturbing.

Through my work I portray the essential absurdity of life and its vulnerability. Since life is in a constant state of flux, art, in order to bring itself closer to life, must be similarly ephemeral.

I force deterioration by using organic material, which also fascinated me with its painterly, textural aspects.

In a series of works I use black beans, coffee, rice and tea, either modeled or poured on flat surfaces, to explore texture and the concepts of time and ageing.

Because "the decomposition of the composition" is inherent to my work, I make no attempt at conservation or intervention.
